Seoul National School for the Blind is a special educational establishment for the students with blindness and visual impairment. On April 1, 1913, it started with the name of ¡ºJESAENGWON¡», a foundation for the welfare of the orphans, the blind and the deaf, at 98 Chunyeon-dong, Seodaemoon-gu, Seoul. Since its relocation to 1-4 Shingyo-dong, Jongro-gu, Seoulin in 1931, it has been nestled at the foot of Inwangsan, a well-known mountain in Seoul.
For the first 48 years, it schooled both students with blindness and students with deafness, but in 1959, it was divided into two separate schools: one for the blind and the other for the deaf. For the past 97 years, 4,331 individuals have graduated, and 22 principals have served their terms including reappointment. And now Ed.D. Lee, Suk-Jin, the incumbent principal, is in charge of the present office.

Six programs are running in our school, including a kindergarten, an elementary school program, a junior and a senior high school program, an rehabilitational vocational program(acupuncture, moxibustion and massage), and an advanced vocational program. The study courses for the kindergarten through the junior high school program consist of national common basic curriculum and courses for adaptive skills required to overcome the visual impairment; the senior high school program has two separate curricula, one for college-preparatory academic course and the other for rehabilitational vocational course. In addition, the rehabilitational vocational program provides two-year vocational training for the individuals who have experienced the visual impairment after the completion of their high school education; the advanced vocational program provides three-year professional vocational training (rehabilitational vocational program) courses which help obtain Rehabilitation Specializing Bachelor's Degree under the condition of full acquisition of the designated credits.
Our school precept is 'Diligence, Sincerity, Cooperation', the school tree is a white pine showing noble beauty and the school flower is a lilac that spreads fresh fragrance. Our school anthem with upbeat rhythm and melody was composed by Park, Jae-Hoon with a wonderful lyric by Jun, Young-Taek, who was a famous writer and principal of our school.
Our school is embraced by comforting beauty of Mt. Inwang and Mt. Bookak throughout the year. In spring, magnolias, golden bells, cherry blossoms, lilacs, royal azaleas, and acacias show off their beauty one after another as if in competition; in summer nightingales and cuckoos are heard from the hill behind the school covered with green forests; in autumn the whole ground is covered with gingko leaves in shiny yellow; in winter the white pine trees stand firm with the spirit of greenness above the playground. In spite of visual impairment our students do their best to make their own dreams come true on the wonderful school campuses.
